Students Explore Careers, Team Building at Acquaintance Day

Local FFA members explored agricultural careers, gained team working experience and learned about McLean County Farm Bureau and affiliated companies at Acquaintance Day Jan. 25.

A record number of 180 sophomores ag students from nine local high schools participated in the annual event.

University of Illinois Extension staff from 4-H Memorial Camp and the local Extension unit office facilitated team building activities.

Ag professionals showcased the range of career opportunities in agriculture including staff
from Illinois Farm Bureau, COUNTRY Financial, Evergreen FS, GROWMARK, and Bellas Landscaping. Heartland Community College and Illinois State University Ag Ambassadors
shared about opportunities for ag certificates and degrees.

Students had the opportunity to test drive a tractor, courtesy of Birkey’s Farm Store.

The event also involved an escape box challenge focused on the purpose of Farm Bureau and its affiliated companies.
