Taking Safety On the Road

Our Rural Route Safety Day program takes farm equipment to local high schools to increase awareness of the unique hazards of farm equipment & promote sharing the road safely.

Program Overview:

  • Purpose: To provide a high impact, hands-on learning experience for new and soon to be licensed drivers about safety while engaging directly with farmers
  • Target audience: High School Sophomores/Juniors
  • Local farmer volunteers and/or fertilizer dealers  provide equipment for the event
  • Schools will provide space in the school parking lot and allocate classes/time for students to participate
  • Presentation: typically a 30-45 minute time slot with a group of up to 40-50 students, students rotate through 3 stations
  • Volunteer needs: minimum of 1 volunteer per station
  • Equipment needs: flexible, minimum one tractor & grain cart or one tractor & planter or tillage tool, can add additional pieces depending on space & equipment availability
