For the first time since the mid-1990s, rural or nonmetro areas saw a population increase

But rural America is still becoming older, with people 65 years and older making up more than 20% of the nonmetro population in 2021. And the four highest-employment industries didn’t include agriculture. How does that impact rural ag? USDA’s Economic Research Service annual report, “Rural America at a Glance,” found that despite the rural agriculture industry’s output per worker and total output have increased over time.
