IFB members to DC lawmakers: Drought reinforces crop insurance in farm bill

From short corn to tight hay supplies, Illinois farmers met with members of Congress and shared how the drought is impacting their operations. They stressed the importance of maintaining crop insurance and the ag safety net in the 2023 farm bill. “No farmer is out there looking to make his living off of crop insurance payments or farm bill payments, but it is nice that when certain things happen that are uncontrollable there is a safety net in place that allows to help the industry,” said Gary Tretter, a corn and soybean farmer from Jackson County.
