Farmers respond to wheat demand in northern Illinois

Increased demand, strong global prices and the largest wheat mill in the U.S. are all contributing to an increase in wheat acres in northern Illinois. “We’re very well situated to continue to provide farmers a fantastic outlet for locally grown wheat,” said Joe Greene of Archer Daniels Midland Co. ADM’s wheat mill in Mendota has the capacity to produce 3 million pounds of flour per day. It also produces about 22% mill feed, which goes into local markets for livestock feed. Greene talks more about the wheat and flour market with FarmWeek’s Daniel Grant.
