McLean County Farm Bureau donated more than 1,000 ears of fresh sweet corn to Thornton Township Food Assistance Center last week to feed families in need.

Located in our adopted legislator, Rep. Thaddeus Jones’ district, the food assistance center serves communities south of Chicago.

Rep. Jones participated in a distribution event on behalf of the Jones Foundation along with several other organizations providing family food boxes to those in need Saturday, August 15.

The sweet corn was grown and harvested at Lay Farms west of Bloomington and delivered by McLean County Farm Bureau Vice President, Brian Dirks, and his wife Linda.

The Illinois Farm Bureau Adopt-A-Legislator program pairs urban legislators with downstate county Farm Bureaus to build relationships and expand mutual understanding of rural and urban issues.
