Global trade and economic issues served as the main focus for Ag Day held Oct. 18 for a group of twenty-three local business leaders.

McLean County Farm Bureau sponsors Ag Day each year for the McLean County Chamber of Commerce Leadership McLean County program.

Dr. Lucas Maxwell of Illinois State University kicked off the program with an overview of the global food system and food related issues.

Mike Doherty, Illinois Farm Bureau, offered a look at global trade and its impact on McLean County farmers.

After lunch, the group visited the Maitland family farm to see corn harvest in action.

At Yuton Elevator, the group learned about grain markets and transportation with Todd McTaggart, Evergreen FS Grain Department Manager.

Alissa Fosdick, Farm Business Farm Management field staff, discussed farm level economics and management decisions.

Hog farmer, Pat Bane and Grain farmer, Jason Lay also spoke to the group about challenges and opportunities in today’s ag economic environment.

The group also had the chance to drive a tractor or combine courtesy of Birkey’s Farm Store.
