STUDY: TARIFF EFFECTS ‘RIPPLE THROUGH THE ECONOMY’

An expanded trade war would cost a family of four $2,400 a year – wiping out gains from tax reform, a new study has found. Illinois Farm Bureau President Richard Guebert Jr. said the study illustrates the importance of quickly resolving trade disputes. The study, conducted by the Trade Partnership Worldwide on behalf of the Tariffs Hurt the Heartland, also found U.S. exports would decline by 8.7 percent, or $204.5 billion annually, and result in the loss of millions of jobs nationwide – 85,120 in Illinois alone.
