POLAR VORTEX DIDN’T WIPE OUT STATE’S STINK BUG POPULATION

A popular report that said 95 percent of the stink bug population died due to extremely cold temperatures in Illinois and surrounding states when the polar vortex gripped much of the Midwest was misleading, according to a local expert. Nick Seiter, a research assistant professor for the University of Illinois who specializes in crop entomology, said “stink bugs, like a lot of insects that we have in Illinois, are adapted to surviving our winters.” (Illinois News Network)
