Illinois wheat growers were unable to break the state wheat yield record for a third consecutive year last year, but yields were still good in many locations. Combined with higher prices, 2018 yields added up to a prosperous year for many Illinois wheat growers. “We maybe were expecting lesser yields than we got,” said John Ernst, president, Illinois Wheat Association. “For most people, it was a decent revenue stream with (wheat) prices increasing through harvest.” (
