WHAT’S THE LEAVE-BEHIND? – How much nitrogen do soybeans leave behind? Unfortunately, according to Michael Gill, GROWMARK’s crop nutrient technical manager, big soybean yields don’t necessarily mean big nitrogen credits. “There’s a factor that if I’m following soybeans (by planting corn), I have a nitrogen credit there; I have some nitrogen that is going to be available from the previous crop,” Gill said. “So, the thought is, as a way to spread out the workload, is to push a little bit of those acres to a sidedress-type situation.” (
