With state and federal laws now signed, industrial hemp advocates say the crop is poised to be the next big cash cow for Illinois farmers. The recent explosion of the cannabis extract cannabidiol, or CBD, as a dietary supplement should give the crop a good start, said Andy Huston who grew an industrial hemp seed crop this year, but additional uses like fiber, textiles, building materials, paper and food will create “tons of offshoot businesses that will come out of this.” (Chicago Tribune)
