PERDUE TALKS TRADE – Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue addressed the ongoing trade war with China and its impact on Illinois farmers during his first stop in Illinois Wednesday. During a meeting at Eckert’s Family Farms in Belleville, Richard Guebert Jr., president of the Illinois Farm Bureau, said that while he is thankful for the funds being passed down from Washington to help farmers burdened by the ongoing trade war with China, he is worried about what next year could look like. “We would rather have trade restored,” Perdue said in reply. However, he said the hurt being felt now is to reset part of the market, diversifying American trade instead of relying so much on Chinese markets for goods like soybeans. (Southern Illinoisan)
