A bill filed by state Rep. Grant Wehrli could up the consequences for political corruption in Illinois. The bill would increase fines to $150,000 for things like failing to disclose business interest, up from $2,500, and could tag on up to a year in jail. A 2014 study found Illinois was the fourth most corrupt state in the nation, estimating the average taxpayer pays more than $1,300 for the corrupt behavior. (Illinois News Network)
