Farmers are now planting just as many soybean acres as corn acres, with Illinois ranking as the top soybean-producing state in the country four of the last five years. But Illinois Farm Bureau Senior Economist Mike Doherty said Illinois farmers won’t abandon corn because it provides some financial security. “Many of them, even then, were resistant to getting too far away from that 50-50 rotation because it works for them,” Doherty said.
