King Corn’s reign may be ending. For the first time in history, American farmers harvested more acres of soybeans this year – 83 million – than any other crop, according to the USDA. The USDA is predicting, based on current market conditions, that soybean acreage will continue to increase, reaching 91 million acres next year, and 92 million acres in 2012. (NPR’s The Salt)
