For the first time, the World Health Organization has issued guidelines for how antibiotics should be used in food animals. Worried about an increasing epidemic of drug-resistant infections, the WHO called on global governments to ban the use of antibiotics for growth promotion and preventive medicine. The WHO also called on veterinarians to avoid antibiotics that are used in human health. (NPR’s The Salt)
