Negotiations over Illinois’ new school funding formula continued Thursday, as did the war of words between Republicans and Democrats. Democratic State Sen. Andy Manar Thursday said Rauner was “using the veto power of the executive branch to attack public education,” while House Republican leader Jim Durkin accused Democrats of putting education at risk by waiting too long to send the bill to the governor. Meanwhile, credit ratings agency Fitch Thursday said it’s monitoring Illinois school districts for possible downgrades.
