2015 was the worst year for newspapers since the Great Recession, with circulation falling by 7% and advertising revenue falling by 8%, according to Pew Research Center’s annual State of the News Media report. digital ad spending went up 20% last year; local TV revenue is steady at $18.6 billion; cable news viewership jumped 8% during prime time; and podcasting continues to grow, with 21% of U.S. adults listening to some kind of podcast, up from 12% six years ago.
