Although the market has softened somewhat the last two years, a recent auction near Springfield showed how valuable prime farmland in central Illinois continues to be.  The land sold for $13,879 per acre. “The central Illinois prices are high historically, but we had some farmland throughout central Illinois, and especially Sangamon County, that sold for $14,000, $15,000 and as high as $17,000 an acre two or three years ago,” said IFB spokesman John Hawkins, as reported by the State Journal Register.
