Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D., Mich.) is calling for voluntary Country-of-Origin Labels on meat. With Canada and Mexico threatening retaliatory action against the U.S. for requiring country-of-origin labels on meat sold in the U.S.,  a key Senate Democrat, is pushing for a voluntary label that still allows domestic beef and pork to be identified as a “Product of the U.S.” Stabenaw, ranking member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, promoted the plan Thursday during a hearing, calling it a “the basis for a bipartisan solution,” the Wall Street Journal reports.
