USDA released its state and county data from the 2012 Ag Census today. For Illinois, about 9,520 farms produced 74% of all ag products sold. Another 6,650 farms produced an additional 14% of ag products.  There were 181 farms in the state with gross sales above $5 million. That group produced 10% of all ag products sold in 2012.

The average size of an Illinois farm was 359 acres, up from 2007. FarmWeek will be crunching the numbers and have a detailed report in the May 12 edition. will be posting stories next week on selected items.
