WOTUS UPDATE

Senate Agriculture Committee Republicans are asking EPA to withdraw the so-called interpretive rule released with its “Waters of the U.S.” (WOTUS) proposal, saying it could “fundamentally alter interaction between farmers and the federal government.”

EPA EXTENDS COMMENTS

With tension surrounding the WOTUS regulation increasing, the EPA announced Monday in an email to reporters it is extending the comment period for the second time through Nov. 14.

WITHDRAW WOTUS

 A coalition of 63 business groups representing everything from farm organizations to oil and natural gas groups, as well as homebuilders, mining, manufacturing and even golf-course trade groups all joined to write federal regulators on Monday again asking them to withdraw the proposed rule redefining waters of the United States.

MISINFORMED

Critics of the Environmental Protection Agency’s WOTUS rule are spreading misinformation, the agency’s chief said Monday. “As with everything EPA does these days, there is some misinformation out there, confusing what our plan is all about,” Gina McCarthy said at a conference of water quality officials in New Orleans.

Members of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) unanimously called on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to withdraw the proposed “waters of the U.S.” rule during their annual meeting last week.
