TECH UPDATE

Cablevision is getting ready to pick a fight with your mobile phone company.  Next month, the cable operator is going to introduce a low-cost mobile phone service dubbed Freewheel that’s based entirely on Wi-Fi connectivity. If it works, expect other companies to follow.

TIPPING POINT

Based on eMarketer’s latest forecast of digital and mobile travel researching and booking, 128.8 million people in the US will research travel on the internet this year, or 63.0% of internet users. Of that group, 47.4% will do so via mobile.

More than 50% teenagers use voice search every day and 56% of adults say using voice search makes them feel “tech savvy,” Google reports in its Mobile Voice study. Top uses for voice search are directions, making a call, searching for a recipe.
