 Edison Research reports nearly a quarter of smartphone owners (22%) listened to a podcast in the last month, compared to only 5% of people who don’t own a smartphone. The podcast audience takes its online audio listening into the car.

PHONE FREEDOM

82% of smartphone-owning seniors described their phone as freeing, compared with 64% of those ages 18 to 29, when asked if they feel that their phone represents “freedom” or “a leash.”

TECH UPDATE

Android was the leading smartphone OS in the first quarter, nabbing 53% of new smartphone activations during the period, CNET reports. Apple’s iOS came in second with 42% of all activations. Windows Phone and BlackBerry OS could only muster 1% market share each.
