RAIL UPDATE

While BNSF railroad faces pressure by Congress for slow movement of 2013 grain out of northern Cornbelt states, the Canadian government is imposing a $100,000 weekly fine on the Canadian National railway for not moving a minimum of 5,000 railcars of grain per week as mandated last November.

RAIL SITUATION

WHY THE DIFFERENCE

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says rail service in the northern tier states has been totally consumed with oil shipments, approaching the rate of 16,000 railcars per week. Similar data on grain cars is unavailable.
