PROPANE UPDATE

U.S. propane stocks rose 1.7 million barrels in the week ended Sept. 25, as inventories reached 98.7 million barrels, the U.S. Department of Energy said this morning.

PROPANE PRICES

Propane prices have remained relatively calm despite U.S. stocks topping 62 million barrels. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported a propane inventory build of in excess of 2 million barrels for the second week in a row, a little above expectations.

GROWMARK Energy says propane inventories are flush compared to last year and the five-year average and demand hasn’t been strong enough to counter supplies and production.

PROPANE GLUT

Estimated weekly exports for propane reached a record high of 538,000 barrels/day for the week ending December 19th according to the EIA. Prices around the world have fallen with U.S. prices as inventories remain high, GROWMARK Energy reports. Days of propane supply in the U.S. are double compared to last year at this time.

Speakers at Wednesday’s IFB Commodities Conference urged farmers to check on fall propane supplies. Among their reasons, the cool summer may turn into a wetter fall this week.  Also, bigger harvests tend to mean higher moisture content in corn.
