GROUP HOUSING

Cargill, one of the largest pork producers in the U.S., is continuing its commitment of moving to group housing for its sows that produce hogs for pork. Company owned-facilities will be 100% group housing by the end of calendar 2015.

PEDV UPDATE

A southern Indiana hog farm has confirmed through its veterinarian that it experienced a second round of PEDv outbreak. Experts now say some 30% of farms nationwide have experienced some rate of re-infection, dismissing the idea that once hog farms have experienced the virus outbreak they’re protected for several years afterward.

PEDV UPDATE

France will ban imports of live pigs, pig byproducts and pig sperm from the United States, Canada, Mexico and Japan to combat a virus that has killed millions of piglets in North America and Asia, a farm ministry official said. The ban is effective Saturday.
