Cows raised on organic and conventional dairy farms in three regions of the United States show no significant differences in health or in the nutritional content of their milk, according to a USDA-financed study by three land grant universities.

FOOD TRENDS

A little less than half — 45 percent — of Americans actively try and include organic foods in their diet but 15 percent go out of their way to avoid them, according to a new Gallup poll. The remaining 38 percent indicated they “don’t think either way.”

EATING ORGANIC

Overall, 45 percent of Americans aged 18 or older say they actively try to include organic food in their diet. A Gallup poll finds the figure is highest in the West (54%) and in cities (50%).

ORGANIC COMPETITION

Shares in Whole Foods Market Inc. on Wednesday dropped 20 percent after the company cut its 2014 same-store sales and earnings forecast for the third time amid rising competition in the natural and organic grocery sector.

THE WALMART WAY

Walmart plans to announce today that it is putting its muscle behind Wild Oats organic products, offering the label at prices that will undercut brand-name organic competitors by at least 25 percent. Instead of hitting the entire national market at once, Walmart will first introduce Wild Oats at 2,000 stores in the coming months.
