MISSISSIPPI GENERATES $400 BILLION, SUPPORTS 1.3 MILLION JOBS

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service released a report at a gathering of mayors in Dubuque that finds commerce along the Mississippi River generates more than $400 billion and supports 1.3 million jobs. FAIR BANS

Iowa will join Minnesota, New York and other states in banning chickens, turkeys and other poultry from state and county fairs to prevent the spread of bird flu this summer.

CROP INSURANCE

For the 2014 crop year, corn indemnities have totaled $3.7 billion, much of which has gone to just two states: Iowa ($1.1 billion) and Minnesota ($1 billion). Illinois’ total was just $143 million.
