In the last half of 2014, Americans crossed a threshold. The plurality of households (45.4%) now has only cell phones, surpassing for the first time the percentage (42.7%) with both cell and landline phones.

BYE-BYE LANDLINE

Today’s Wall Street Journal looks at an Alabama town where AT&T is eliminating landline phones in favor of Internet/wireless phones. Nearly 40% of U.S. households now have no landline phone, and there are more wireless devices than people. AT&T plans to convert its entire 22-state network to Internet protocol technology by 2020.
