FARMLAND VALUES HURT BY DROPS IN CORN & SOYBEAN PRICES

Farmland values in the Corn Belt dropped for the first time in 28 years, according to a report Thursday by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.  The states including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin saw farmland values drop 3 percent in 2014, due in large part to the drop in soybean and corn prices.

FARMLAND AUCTION

– Bidders paid $9,600/A for 44.5 acres along Route 51 near Macon, IL, on Tuesday.  The tract had a 139.5 PI, 84.3% tillable, but it was oddly shaped and had a tree-lined border.  That’s $11,392 per tillable acre.

LAND VALUES

 U of I’s Gary Schnitkey says Illinois land values increased more from 1970 to 1983 than from 2000 to 2013, according to a recent NASS land value report.
