FED UNCHANGED

The Federal Reserve on Wednesday indicated it only expects two interest-rate increases in 2016, half as many as in its December projection. The Fed left interest rates unchanged this month.

FED KEEPS INTEREST RATES AT RECORD LOWS

The Federal Reserve is keeping U.S. interest rates at record lows in the face of persistent threats from a weak international economy and excessively low inflation. But it suggested the possibility of a rate hike as early as December, the Associated Press reports.

INTEREST RATES

The International Monetary Fund is urging the Federal Reserve to defer raising interest rates until there are greater signs of wage or price inflation than are currently evident. That’s likely early 2016.

FED UPDATE

Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Stanley Fischer would like the Fed’s approach to dealing with issues surrounding financial stability to look a little bit more like the Bank of England’s, which empowers a separate committee to advise on the use of more targeted policies separate from interest rate decisions.

YELLEN SPEAKS

Federal Reserve chair Janet Yellen told Congress today that before moving on an interest rate increase the FOMC will remove the language of “patient.” Meanwhile, the federal funds futures contract in Chicago is signaling a 50-50 toss-up on a September rate hike.
