THINKING ABOUT NEXT FARM BILL

“It’s never too early to start on the next farm bill,” says Rep. Mike Conaway, the next chairman of the House Agriculture Committee. The Texas Republican, whose position in the top agriculture post was confirmed Tuesday by the House Republican Steering Committee, told POLITICO that he’s already thinking about the 2019 farm bill.

AG COMMITTEE

Kansas Sen. Pat Roberts says he expects to be Agriculture Committee chairman when Republicans take control of the Senate in January. He would be the first person to chair the both the House and Senate Agriculture committees.

WOTUS UPDATE

The US House yesterday evening approved HR 5078 and ditched EPA’s Waters of the U.S. rule. BONUS DEPRECIATION

The House on Friday approved H.R. 4718. The legislation makes the 50 percent bonus depreciation permanent. The bill also expands bonus depreciation to include trees and vines that bear fruits or nuts. TAX VOTE STILL SHORT

Illinois House Democrats remain “significantly away” from the 60 votes needed to make the temporary income tax increase permanent, House Speaker Michael Madigan said last night.
