BIODIESEL KUDOS

Biodiesel reduces greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% and often by as much as 81% vs. petroleum, the California Air Resources Board affirmed the figures in the state’s revised low carbon fuels standard (LCFS) finalized Sept. 25.

FUEL PRICES

Agricultural producers in wide parts of the country are experiencing an easing in gas and diesel prices not seen in years. Gas prices for this time of year are the lowest since 2010 when they ran well under $3 per gallon. Diesel fuel is at its lowest price since 2012.

ENERGY OUTLOOK

The U.S. annual average regular gasoline retail price, which averaged $3.51/gal in 2013, is projected to increase to an average of $3.54/gal in 2014 before falling to $3.45/gal in 2015. Diesel fuel prices, which averaged $3.92/gal in 2013, are projected to average $3.93/gal in 2014 and $3.88/gal in 2015, according to the Energy Information Administration.

FRACKING PUSH DEAD

A bill that sought to skip a rule-making process on Illinois’ new fracking law is dead for lack of support, state lawmakers said Wednesday. Although fracking legislation was signed into law last June, oil and gas companies have to wait for state officials to craft administrative rules before they can break ground.
