U.S. ADULTS STILL SKIMP ON FRUIT, VEGGIES

Most U.S. adults still aren’t eating nearly enough fruits and vegetables. In a large national survey, only 13% said they ate the recommended amount of fruit each day and only 9% ate enough vegetables.

PRODUCE OUTLOOK

The California drought continues into 2015—as of March, 42% of the State is classified under the exceptional drought rating. Despite these conditions, U.S. fresh fruit and vegetable price inflation is expected to be close to its historical average in 2015.

BERRY BERRY GOOD

Per capita consumption of fresh raspberries grew 475 percent from 2000 to 2012, the most recent year for which data are available  according to statistics published by the United States Department of Agriculture. Blueberry consumption is up 411 percent, and strawberries are up 60 percent.

FOOD RATINGS

Whole Foods Market has launched a new rating system for its fruits, vegetables and flowers that assesses growing practices on how they affect human health and the environment. The produce will be labeled “good “good,” “better,” or “best” to help shoppers make more informed choices, the company said in a news release.
