IOWA FARMLAND VALUES DECREASE

Iowa farmland values have tumbled nearly 13% since peaking in 2013 with lower corn, soybean prices.  The statewide average price of an acre is $7,366.

CASH RENTS

60% of ProFarmer members say they’ll tough out high cash rent rates yet again in 2016, according to a new survey. About 40% of those surveyed said they absolutely or probably would give up land next year if rents are too high.

CONTINUED SOFTNESS PROJECTED IN ILLINOIS FARMLAND VALUES

San Francisco-based Granular announced today it has acquired AcreValue. The free service allows buyers, sellers, agents and other interested parties to browse AcreValue estimates using a map-based interface. The real estate site is somewhat similar to Zillow for residential homes.

FARMLAND SALE

196 acres of tillable farmland in Douglas County resulted in a sale price of $2,091,000, or $10,668 per acre. An investor purchased the farm at Tuesday’s auction.

FARMLAND VALUES HURT BY DROPS IN CORN & SOYBEAN PRICES

Farmland values in the Corn Belt dropped for the first time in 28 years, according to a report Thursday by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.  The states including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin saw farmland values drop 3 percent in 2014, due in large part to the drop in soybean and corn prices.
