COURT RULING ON INSECTICIDE

A federal appeals court has ordered the Environmental Protection Agency to act by Oct. 31 on a petition calling for a ban on the insecticide chlorpyrifos. The chemical’s better known brand names are Lorsban and Dursban.

BOOST BIODIESEL VOLUMES

A bipartisan group of 36 senators want the Environmental Protection Agency to raise the proposed volumes it set for biodiesel production under the federal Renewable Fuel Standard. The senators said the EPA’s delays in setting biodiesel volumes led to tremendous uncertainty and hardship for U.S. biodiesel producers.

RFS HEARING

The Environmental Protection Agency is holding a hearing in Kansas City, Kansas, on its proposed Renewable Fuel Standard volumes for 2014 through 2016. Farm Bureau members from Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois will be providing in-person testimony at the hearing.

RFS TARGETS

U.S. regulators unveiled much-anticipated targets for the blending of renewable fuels into motor fuel for the three years to 2016, proposing some 17.4 billion gallons of renewable fuels must be used in gasoline or diesel next year.
