USDA reports 70% of U.S. farmers and ranchers now have computer and Internet access, a 3% jump from 2013. That’s the key outtake from a new survey, Farm and Computer Usage and Ownership, released this week by USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Walgreens expects to reach about half the country by the end of the year with a new service that lets people see doctors for minor ailments without leaving home, through smartphone, tablet or computer.

TABLET USE

It appears that it will only take five years from the iPad’s introduction for tablet sales to outpace those of traditional computers. Gigaom.com reports tablets can’t replace PCs for everyone, but they do more than enough for many people.

TECH TRENDS

Net Applications has found that Windows 8 actually lost user share in June 2014, while Windows 7 has really been the operating system to gain from XP’s end of support earlier this year. Windows itself, with 91.5 percent market share, remains the dominant desktop operating system.
