@EPA TO PROPOSE REPEALING CLIMATE DOCUMENT

The US EPA will propose repealing the Clean Power Plan, an Obama era regulation tasked with fighting climate change, and will solicit input on a rule to replace it,  according to Reuters. The decision marks the agency’s first formal step to sweep away the rule, which was issued to cut carbon emissions from power plants.

CLIMATE CHANGE

Three-quarters of Americans now accept the scientific consensus on climate change, the highest level in four years of surveys conducted by the University of Texas at Austin. In a remarkable turnabout, 59% of Republicans now say climate change is happening, up from 47% just six months ago.

HIGHER LOSSES AHEAD

The Government Accountability Office says cost of the taxpayer-subsidized crop and flood insurance programs could rise substantially in coming decades due to climate change. The GAO report says global warming “may substantially increase losses by 2040 and increase losses from about 50 to 100% by 2100.”
