BEEF CHECKOFF

The Cattlemen’s Beef Board will invest about $42 million into programs in fiscal year 2016, pending USDA and full Beef Board approval. Of the total, $9 million will be spent for promotion programs, including continuation of the checkoff’s consumer digital advertising program, as well as veal promotion.

BEEF CHECKOFF

Three out of four producers support the beef checkoff, while the number who disapprove of the program, at just 11 percent, is the lowest in program history, according to a recent survey of 1,209 beef and dairy producers nationwide. IFB supports the upcoming Illinois beef checkoff vote.

BEEF CHECKOFF

Under a new attempt for harmony over the beef checkoff program, the proposed $2 per head fee would be put to a nationwide referendum among cattle producers, says DTN. The $2 checkoff would be double the current rate and would require congressional action.

COMMODITY ELECTIONS

The Illinois Department of Agriculture today announced the candidates for three state commodity boards. Farmers will vote July 8 to determine members of the Illinois Corn Marketing Board, the Illinois Soybean Program Operating Board, the Sheep and Wool Marketing Board. Ballots may be cast at county Extension Offices during regular operating hours.
