LOSING IN 2020

Illinois is very likely going to lose another congressional seat in the 2020 Census. Illinois currently has 18 House members — that would go to 17 in the next redistricting. In fact, many of the Northeast/Midwest states would lose seats to the Sun Belt states,  Daily Kos reports.

RURAL POVERTY

1 out of every 6 rural Americans – more than 8.2 million people – lives in poverty, according to a report by the Census Bureau. The rural poverty rate of 16.5% for 2014 was not statistically different than the 2013 rate.

MILLENNIALS TOP BOOMERS

This year, the Millennial generation is projected to surpass the #BabyBoomer generation as the nation’s largest living generation, according to the population projections released by the U.S. Census Bureau last month. With immigration adding more numbers to its group than any other, the Millennial population is projected to peak in 2036 at 81.1 million.

Aging Rural Areas

New data, taken from a Census report on population trends released Thursday, offer a snapshot of the challenges America’s rural counties face. Nearly 60% of rural counties shrank in population last year, up from 50% in 2009 and around 40% in the late 1990s.

MEDIAN INCOME

The $51,939 median household income of 2013 is not significantly different from the $51,758 of 2012, after adjusting for inflation. This is the second year in a row of no significant change in median household income, according to the Census Bureau, following two years of decline.
