In the last half of 2014, Americans crossed a threshold. The plurality of households (45.4%) now has only cell phones, surpassing for the first time the percentage (42.7%) with both cell and landline phones.

TECH UPDATE

Cablevision is getting ready to pick a fight with your mobile phone company.  Next month, the cable operator is going to introduce a low-cost mobile phone service dubbed Freewheel that’s based entirely on Wi-Fi connectivity. If it works, expect other companies to follow.

CELLPHONE PRIVACY

 Treating modern cellphones as gaping windows into nearly all aspects of the user’s life and private conduct, the Supreme Court on Wednesday unanimously ordered police to get a search warrant before examining the contents of any such device they take from a person they have arrested.
