BROADBAND ACCESS PLATEAUS

The share of Americans with broadband at home has plateaued: It now stands at 67%, down slightly from 70% in 2013. At the same time, more Americans rely only on their smartphones for online access, a new Pew Research survey finds.

MORE CUTTING CORD ON HOME BROADBAND

Americans continue to shun home broadband and use mobile phones instead for Internet access, survey results released this week by the Pew Research Center finds.  The survey also found that 80% of U.S. adults had Internet access this year, whether through a smartphone or a home Internet connection, up from 78% two years ago.

BROADBAND OPPORTUNITY COUNCIL

USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack and Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker will head the collaboration of 25 government agencies and departments dedicated to advancing rural broadband service, the White House announced Monday. “Broadband access is as key to economic success today as electricity was in the 20th Century,” Vilsack said.
