CONSUMER REPORTS AND GROUND BEEF

A new study from Consumer Reports, the organization known for investigating and rating all sorts of consumer goods from cars to countertops, found high levels of what they deemed “dangerous” strains of bacteria in American ground beef. MEAT PRICES

The rapid rise in beef prices and significant decline in pork prices since the beginning of 2015 has widened the spread between the two competing meats to $190/cwt. USDA’s ERS analysts say at current prices, consumers are likely to favor more pork in their diet and less beef.

WHERE’S THE BEEF

McDonald’s Corp.’s announcement that it will curb #antibiotic use in its U.S. chicken products raises an obvious question: Where’s the antibiotic-free beef? Today’s Wall Street Journal reports sourcing beef is more complex and fragmented than for chicken.

RECIPE SEARCHING

Data from a recent #beef checkoff study shows that cooking method searches online have increased year-over-year, specifically slow cooker, with more than 2,000,000 monthly searches. To capitalize on this consumer search activity, the “Beef. It’s What’s For Dinner” website created a recipe collection that is focused solely on Slow Cooking beef recipes.
