CARGILL AND ANTIBIOTICS

Cargill’s Shady Brook Farms and Honeysuckle White brands are now offering fresh, whole turkeys and fresh, bone-in turkey breasts raised without growth-promoting antibiotics, the company announced. Antibiotics will still be used to treat and prevent illness. Earlier this year, Tyson and Purdue announced similar actions with chickens.

CALIFORNIA AND ANTIBIOTICS

 California Governor Jerry Brown vetoed a proposed first-in-the-nation state law to reduce antibiotic use in livestock and told legislators, “More needs to be done to understand and reduce our reliance on antibiotics.”

Perdue Foods announced today that it has removed all antibiotics from its chicken hatcheries, a move that took five years to implement and goes above and beyond USDA and FDA voluntary guidelines.
