PIG STUDY

Sweden’s ministry of agriculture is funding a new pilot-project that seeks to establish if holding sows in farrowing crates allows more piglets to survive if the sow is immobilized during lactating. Currently, about a half-million piglets die each year in Sweden – many from trampling.

SUPERBUG RESEARCH

Researchers at Colorado State University are rolling out a series of projects to track antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the livestock industry, in an attempt to determine whether farm practices are fueling the rise of “superbugs.”

CHIPOTLE SUSPENDS SUPPLIER

Chipotle has suspended a large #pork supplier after a routine animal welfare audit and has temporarily stopped serving entrees with its carnitas pork topping at about one-third of its restaurants.  The name of the supplier was not made public.
