Pie baking and yeast bread contest will be Thursday, July 31. Check-in for pies and yeast bread will be from 11 a.m. to noon. in rooms east of the lobby at the Interstate Center. Judging will begin at 1 p.m.

The contest is open to anyone age eight to 80. All entries should have recipes attached. No soft pies will be accepted, bread machines should not be used and no yeast loaves accepted.

There will be four categories of judging: single pie and pie put in a display that is 4 ft.-by-4 ft. or single yeast bread or yeast bread put in a display that is 4-by-4. Prizes will be awarded in all categories. For more information, call alumni Director Nancy Messamore at (309) 727-1180.


Hog and husband calling contests are set for Friday, Aug. 1 in the swine barn. Check-in will be from 12 to 1 p.m. with judging beginning at 1 p.m. The three scoring the highest points in the first go around will compete in the finals for first, second and third place prizes. Contestants will be given one minute and will be judged according to volume and clearness, appeal, assurance and originality.


Association annual meeting will be held immediately following the Hog and Husband Calling Contest inside the lobby of the Interstate Center..


Ice cream sundaes will be available again in a booth on the grounds and alumni and 4-H’ers will man the booth.


The alumni booth located in the lobby of the Interstate Center will provide a showcase for 4-H. Included will be a collage of 4-H photos and a map of the county showing the location of all clubs. A slide show and balloon giveaway will be featured. Four 4-H projects will be showcased each day. They will be representative projects, not necessarily the top winners. The corn play yard will be available for little folks and Whitacre’s Country Oak Shoppe in Hudson will supply furniture for tired fair goers to relax on.
