Despite a slight bump in USDA’s projected 2017 farm income, farmers still are grappling with thin margins – and are looking to lawmakers for help in driving demand. “We continue to look for new markets for corn and soybeans, especially central Illinois farmers,” said Sangamon County Farm Bureau President Phil Sidles. “We have some of the best farmers in the world right here. My biggest fear is the trade issue. They talk about pulling out of NAFTA, and that would be horrible for U.S. grain.” (State Journal-Register)
