STATE AND FEDERAL REGS HURT LOCAL PROJECTS

Rural officials say state and federal regulations are getting in the way of their ability to get local infrastructure projects done for a reasonable price. Greenville Public Works Director Bill Grider said the city’s planned sidewalk project ballooned from $100,000 to $250,000 because of state-mandated impact studies and soil samples. “We’re just installing a sidewalk,” Grider said. “It’s not like we’re trying to build a bridge over the Mississippi River, or something like that.” (Illinois News Network)
